However, there’s one thing to keep in mind. Although it is perfectly fine to sign a marriage contract during menstruation, it is forbidden to consummate the marriage involving intercourse. Allah says:

They ask you concerning menstruation. Say: that is an adha (a harmful thing for a husband to have sexual intercourse with his wife while she is having her menses), therefore, keep away from women during menses and go not unto them till they are purified (from menses and have taken a bath)” [al-Baqarah 2:222]

Therefore, the act must be delayed until the menstruation has stopped completely and you have purified yourself by taking a bath (ghusl).

How to Skip Period for Wedding?

In Islam, it is permissible for a woman to skip period in times of necessity. The Standing Committee for Issuing Fatwas stated that a woman is permitted to consume pills to delay her period at the time of Hajj if she fears she may get her period, but that is only after consulting a specialized doctor to make sure it doesn’t affect her health. She may do likewise in Ramadan if she wants to fast with the people.

Here’s how to skip period for wedding.

1. Consult Your Doctor

This is the first thing that should be done. Talk to a gynecologist and an internal medicine professional as they will help you understand which prevention method is suitable for you and also the side effects that may be involved.

2. Start Using Medication Accordingly

Period is usually delayed by hormonal birth control methods. Your doctor might advise you to use the IUD (intrauterine device), the implant, the shot, the patch, or the ring. All of these contraceptive methods are permitted in Islam

3. Start Experimenting Months Before Your Wedding

To ensure you don’t have period on wedding night, you’ll need to experiment with the contraceptive method prescribed to you ahead of time. It is best to start testing at least 3 months prior to the wedding day. If the prescribed method doesn’t work well for you then you have the time to experiment with another method. Again, a doctor’s consultation is needed.

4. Track Your Menstrual Cycle

If you don’t prefer using contraceptives, you can keep track of your monthly cycle. Although it won’t stop bleeding, it will help you predict when your next period will occur. You can use a period tracking app for convenience.

However, stress plays a major role in your period schedule. If you predict that your menstruation will start from a specific date and you’re stressed, it may occur earlier than you expected. Therefore, if you choose to track your period, make sure to control your stress levels.
