Our Prophet Muhammad S.A.W (PBUH) said that “Whoever marries has achieved one-half of one’s religion.” There are other benefits of marriage. This is exactly why it is said that marriage is half your deen. It helps in fulfilling your desires in a halal way. Your companion will undoubtedly encourage you to do better in life and help you in raising a family.
Prophet Muhammad SAW (PBUH) said, “When a man marries he has fulfilled half of the deen; so let him fear Allah regarding the remaining half”
Marriage is one of life’s biggest blessings. You can have a righteous companion and lead your life by abiding by the laws of our religion. Everything in your life comes at a price, to maintain and nurture your faith, something so valuable, you’ll need to put in a lot of faith and effort.
Muslim Life Partner?
So, let’s discuss this in detail
What is the Price of Fulfilling Half of Your Deen?
When our messenger described marriage as half of your deen, he undoubtedly put a lot of significance on it. Islam requires us to sincerely surrender and submit. It also needs us to give up our desires and work on pleasing Allah SWT.
Marriage is not a walk in the park, it requires a lot of sacrifices.
So, the price of marriage isn’t cheap. Some of the necessities of a happy marriage can be –
- Commit yourself to learn & achieve half your deen for a lifetime
- To always be in service to our spouse
- Ensure that we are battling our ego
- Having respect for each other
- Desiring each other’s loyalty
1. Commit yourself to learn & achieve half your deen for a lifetime
After getting married, people realize that it is a lot different from what they had imagined. Getting married means you’ll have companionship. This would mean you won’t get the same amount of time and space for yourself.
Marriage also means your spouse would love, support, and accept you. Although they will also give a reminder of the things they don’t like. You will find out a lot more about yourself. Marriage can also be a test of your generosity, patience, and love. Through the test of time, couples can get to learn about themselves and their spouses. Hence, be a better version of themselves.
2. To always be in service of our spouse
Marriage needs both the husband and the wife to help each other out during sickness and in health. For a happy and successful marriage, you need to prioritize your spouse.
If you want perfection for ‘half your deen’, then try following the lifestyle of our Prophet Muhammad SAW (PBUH). He always helped out his wife and also the people who worked in his house.
Our Prophet would carry out tasks such as –
- Mopping the floor
- Stitching his clothes
- Preparing the meals
3. Ensure that we are battling our ego
You are responsible for ensuring that your conjugal life remains peaceful. The trials that you face during conjugal life are proportional to the spiritual shortcomings that exist within you. Provided that you plan on succeeding in ‘half of your deen’, you must be capable of dealing with the inner demons, within the marriage battlefront.
Marriage will bring out your imperfections and shortcomings. Therefore, to accomplish ‘half your faith’, you need to go through a lot of struggle.
4. Having respect for each other
It is of utmost importance that the husband loves his wife. On the other hand, the wife has respect for her husband. Muslim women need to understand the importance of respecting their husbands.
Within most Muslim families, boys are taught that they need to grow up to be the breadwinners and custodians of the household. It can indeed be very exasperating for a man to know that his woman doesn’t respect him, even after taking care of the family.
It was mentioned in the Quran by Allah SWT
“Men are in charge of women by what Allah SWT has given one over the other and what they spend from their wealth. So righteous women are devoutly obedient, guarding in [the husband’s] absence what Allah would have them guard”
(4: 34)
5. Desiring each other’s loyalty
This coincides with mutual respect. If your spouse isn’t loyal then, it can jeopardize your marriage. Ideally, people would like to spend the rest of their lives with their spouses. It is only understandable that spouses expect their better half to be there for them during tough times.
A majority of the men won’t admit it but they need women in their lives. But it can be quite troubling if a woman isn’t there for their man during tough times. Therefore, the husband needs to know for sure that the wife is there for him through thick and thin, even if –
- If he tries to do something and fails at it.
- When the going gets tough and if he loses his job.
- If a woman stays loyal to her husband, then you can rest assured your husband will do the same.
Conclusion
To conclude, both the man and women should pray and ask Allah SWT so that he is merciful in revealing our flaws. More importantly, provide his guidance for fighting our inner demons. Lastly, bestow his blessing throughout every step of conjugal life to fulfill half our deen.
