List of the Dua for Protection From Jinn

The following is a comprehensive list of Duas that serve as spiritual shields against the potential harm and mischief of jinn:

1. Seek Sanctuary With Allah From the Jinn

Dua for Protection From Jinn

The primary foundation for protection from the influence of jinn lies in seeking refuge with Allah. This act is emphasized in the Quran, where Allah instructs believers to seek refuge with Him when tempted by Satan.

In Surah Fussilat (41:36), Allah says:

وَإِمَّا يَنزَغَنَّكَ مِنَ ٱلشَّيْطَـٰنِ نَزْغٌۭ فَٱسْتَعِذْ بِٱللَّهِ ۖ إِنَّهُۥ هُوَ ٱلسَّمِيعُ ٱلْعَلِيمُ

And if you are tempted by Satan, then seek refuge with Allah. Indeed, He ˹alone˺ is the All-Hearing, All-Knowing.

Also, in Surah Al-A’raf (7:200), the Almighty states:

وَإِمَّا يَنزَغَنَّكَ مِنَ ٱلشَّيْطَـٰنِ نَزْغٌۭ فَٱسْتَعِذْ بِٱللَّهِ ۚ إِنَّهُۥ سَمِيعٌ عَلِيمٌ ٢٠٠

If you are tempted by Satan, then seek refuge with Allah. Surely He is All-Hearing, All-Knowing.

Therefore, the most powerful protection from Jinn is regularly seeking refuge with Allah through seeking His protection.

2. Recite the Al-Mu’Awwidhatayn (Surah Al-Falaq and An-Nas)

In a Hadith, the Mu’awwidhatayn, the last two chapters of the Quran, Surah Al-Falaq and Surah An-Nas, are specifically mentioned as protection from Jinn.

Our Prophet Muhammad (SAW) himself sought protection from the evil eye of both jinn and humans by reciting these verses. As recorded in Sunan Ibn Majah 3511, Abu Sa’eed said:

“The Messenger of Allah (S) used to seek refuge from the evil eye of the jinn and of mankind. When the Mu’awwidhatain were revealed, he started to recite them and stopped reciting anything else.”

Also, combining Surah Al-Ikhlas with Surah Al-Falaq and Surah An-Nas further enhances the protection against jinn. The Prophet would recite these three chapters before going to bed, blowing over his hands and rubbing them over his body. He (S) used to do that three times. (Sahih al-Bukhari 5017)

3. Recite Ayatul Kursi

Recite Ayatul Kursi

Ayatul Kursi, found in Surah Al-Baqarah (2:255), holds great significance in Islam due to its emphasis on the greatness and sovereignty of Allah.

This verse is highly recommended by the Prophet Muhammad (SAW) to be recited before going to bed, as it invokes Allah’s protection throughout the night. The Hadith in Sahih al-Bukhari 5010 highlights the protective nature of reciting Ayatul Kursi, ensuring that harm is kept at bay until dawn.

4. Recite Surah Al-Baqarah

To protect oneself from the influence of jinn, individuals can recite Surah Al-Baqarah, seeking spiritual and physical safeguarding. This Surah holds a special place in Islamic teachings regarding protection from jinn.

Abu Hurayrah (may Allah be pleased with him) reported that the Messenger of Allah (may Allah’s peace and blessings be upon him) said:

Do not turn your houses into graves. Indeed, Satan runs away from the house in which Surat al-Baqarah is recited.” (Sahih Muslim)

This authentic hadith encourages believers to recite Surah Al-Baqarah to repel the presence and influence of jinn.

5. Recite the Last Two Verses of Surah Al-Baqarah

Surah Al-Baqarah

Reciting the last two verses of Surah Al-Baqarah is also a powerful dua for protection from jinn. These verses carry immense significance in seeking refuge from the influence of Jinn.

The Prophet Muhammad (S) emphasized the efficacy of reciting the last two verses of Surah Al-Baqarah at night, stating that it would be sufficient for protection.

Regarding this, a Hadith found in Sunan Ibn Majah 1369, Abu Mas’ud reported that the Prophet (S) said:

“Whoever recites the last two Verses of Surah Al-Baqarah at night, that will be sufficient for him.”

That means it will act as a spiritual shield against jinn and other harm throughout the night.

6. Recite Surah Al-Mu’minun (23:97-98)

Allah teaches us a Dua for protection from jinns in Surah Al-Mu’minun (23:97-98).

The Dua in these verses is:

رَّبِّ أَعُوذُ بِكَ مِنْ هَمَزَٰتِ ٱلشَّيَـٰطِينِ٩٧

وَأَعُوذُ بِكَ رَبِّ أَن يَحْضُرُونِ٩٨

“My Lord! I seek refuge in You from the temptations of the devils. And I seek refuge in You, my Lord, that they ˹even˺ come near me.”

By reciting these words, we affirm our trust in Allah’s power and seek Allah’s divine protection from the influence and harm of jinn.

7. Call to Prayer (Adhan)

Call to Prayer (Adhan)

By incorporating the call to prayer (Adhan), we strengthen our protection from the Jinn. The Hadith from Sahih Muslim 389a reveals the powerful impact of the Adhan in repelling Satan. Here is the Hadith:

“Abu Huraira reported that the Messenger of Allah (S) said: “When Satan hears the call to prayer, he turns back and breaks the wind so as not to hear the call being made, but when the call is finished he turns round and distracts (the minds of those who pray), and when he hears the Iqama, he again runs away so as not to hear its voice and when it subsides, he comes back and distracts (the minds of those who stand for prayer).”

So, reciting the Adhan serves as a spiritual shield against jinn and their influence. We can also seek refuge with Allah from Satan’s temptation using the words of Adhan.

8. Recite Additional Duas for Protection From Jinn

Various specific supplications (Duas) have also been recommended for seeking protection from Jinn.

One such dua is the declaration of faith, “La ilaha ill-Allah wahdahu la sharika lah, lahu’l-mulk wa lahu’l-hamd wa huwa ‘ala kulli shayin qadir,” which should be recited one hundred times a day. This dua not only carries immense reward but also serves as a shield against the influence of Shaytan.

Seeking refuge with Allah by saying “أعوذ بالله من الشيطان الرجيم” is another powerful dua for protection from jinn. (Hisn al-Muslim 141, Abu Dawud 1/206)

Also, reciting “أَعـوذُ بِكَلِـماتِ اللّهِ التّـامّاتِ مِنْ شَـرِّ ما خَلَـق” (I seek refuge in the Perfect Words of Allah from the evil of what He has created) offers further defense against the harm caused by jinn. (Muslim 4/2080 and  Hisn al-Muslim 216)

We can also recite this Dua:

بِسـمِ اللهِ الذي لا يَضُـرُّ مَعَ اسمِـهِ شَيءٌ في الأرْضِ وَلا في السّمـاءِ وَهـوَ السّمـيعُ العَلـيم

This means, (In the Name of Allah with Whose Name there is protection against every kind of harm in the earth or in the heaven, and He is the All-Hearing and All-Knowing).

Reciting this Dua three times every morning and evening provides comprehensive protection from any harm. (Riyad as-Salihin 1457, Abu Dawud and At- Tirmidhi).

Recite the Powerful Quranic Verses and Supplications for Protection from Jinn

The power of dua for protection from jinn is undeniable. By seeking refuge in Allah and reciting the appropriate supplications, we can shield ourselves from the harmful influence of these supernatural beings.

Quranic verses, such as those from Surah Fussilat and Surah Al-A’raf, emphasize the importance of turning to Allah for refuge. If we recite the Mu’awwidhatayn, Ayatul Kursi, Surah Al-Baqarah, and Surah Al-Mu’minun, Allah will provide us with immense protection from the Jinns.
