Developing feelings for someone is integral to maturing. But, when these emotions cause distractions or conflict with one’s faith, seeking guidance is important.

1. Understanding the Nature of Feelings

How To Stop Having A Crush On Someone?

To stop having a crush on someone effectively, begin by understanding the nature of your feelings. Recognize that having a crush is a natural human experience and not something to be blamed for. Women and men are naturally attracted to each other, and Islam doesn’t condemn that.

Allah SWT says,

“There is no blame on you for subtly showing interest in ˹divorced or widowed˺ women or for hiding ˹the intention˺ in your hearts. Allah knows that you are considering them ˹for marriage˺. But do not make a secret commitment with them—you can only show interest in them appropriately. Do not commit to the bond of marriage until the waiting period expires. Know that Allah is aware of what is in your hearts, so beware of Him. And know that Allah is All-Forgiving, Most Forbearing.” [Surah: Al-Baqarah, Ayat: 235]

Remember, feelings alone aren’t sinful; the actions taken upon them can lead to wrongdoing. Understanding your feelings will help you understand why you’re attracted to this person and how it aligns with your values.

2. Seeking Spiritual Protection

To stop having a crush on someone using Islamic guidance, turn to Allah, and seek refuge from Shaytan’s influence. Be aware that Shaytan always seeks opportunities to lead you wrong and amplify your emotions.

When these thoughts arise, recite the supplication ‘A’udhu biLlahi min ash-Shaytan ir-rajeem’ to seek Allah’s protection. Also, lowering your gaze in front of the person you crush can help manage your emotions.

According to Surah: An-Nur, Ayat: 30, Allah SWT instructs us,

“˹O Prophet!˺ Tell the believing men to lower their gaze and guard their chastity. That is purer for them. Surely Allah is All-Aware of what they do.”

Allah is the ultimate protector, and He’s always there for you. Seek His guidance through prayer and supplication, and ask Him to help you overcome these feelings.

3. Engaging in Religious Practices

Engaging in Religious Practices

Engage in religious practices to overcome feelings of lust for someone. Redirect your focus and channel your energy towards deepening your understanding of the faith. Dive into religious studies, such as fiqh, seerah, and Arabic, to nurture your relationship with Allah.

Also, engaging in Dhikr and Du’a can be powerful tools for overcoming the grip of a crush. Remember to regularly recite Allah’s names and seek His guidance through supplication.

4. Practical Focus Areas

You can also redirect your attention and energy toward key focus areas to overcome a crush. Instead of dwelling on your feelings for someone, channel your emotions towards activities that will benefit your growth and well-being.

Engaging in academic pursuits, like studying and participating in extracurricular activities, helps you focus on your education and distracts you from your crush.

5. Social and Supportive Measures
