“Wa inimra atun khaafat mim ba’lihaa nushoozan aw i’raadan falaa junaaha ‘alaihi maaa ai yuslihaa bainahumaa sulhaa; wassulhu khair; wa uhdiratil anfusush shuhh; wa in tuhsinoo wa tattaqoo fa innal laaha kaana bimaa ta’maloona Khabeeraa”

Meaning:

“And if a woman fears from her husband contempt or evasion, there is no sin upon them if they make terms of settlement between them – and settlement is best. And present in [human] souls is stinginess. But if you do good and fear Allah – then indeed Allah is ever, with what you do, acquainted.

How to Recite This Surah?

1. Recite verse 128 after each prayer

2. After reciting, do Qiyam (raising hands) and ask Allah (SWT) to save your marriage from divorce. 

Continue this practice for 41 days and recite the surah as much as you can. The differences between you and your spouse will be settled peacefully. 

Surah Ar-Rum

Surah Ar-Rum is another surah that is known to resolve multiple issues involved in marital life. You will need to recite verse 21 from this surah:

“Wa min Aayaatiheee an khalaqa lakum min anfusikum azwaajal litaskunooo ilaihaa wa ja’ala bainakum mawad datanw wa rahmah; inna fee zaalika la Aayaatil liqawminy yatafakkaroon”

Meaning:

“And of His signs is that He created for you from yourselves mates that you may find tranquillity in them; and He placed between you affection and mercy. Indeed in that are signs for a people who give thought.”

1. After Isha salah, recite verse 21 500 times

2. After reciting, ask Allah (SWT) to save your marriage from divorce

Keep doing this for 25 days and your marriage issues will be resolved. 

Surah Al-Baqarah

Reciting verse 187 of Surah Al-Baqarah helps resolve all types of problems in a marriage:

“Uhilla lakum laylatas Siyaamir rafasu ilaa nisaaa’ikum; hunna libaasullakum wa antum libaasullahunn; ‘alimal laahu annakum kuntum takhtaanoona anfusakum fataaba ‘alaikum wa ‘afaa ‘ankum fal’aana baashiroo hunna wabtaghoo maa katabal laahoo lakum; wa kuloo washraboo hattaa yatabaiyana lakumul khaitul abyadu minal khaitil aswadi minal fajri summa atimmus Siyaama ilal layl; wa laa tubaashiroo hunna wa antum ‘aakifoona fil masaajid; tilka hudoodul laahi falaa taqraboohaa; kazaalika yubaiyinul laahu aayaatihee linnaasi la’allahum yattaqoon”

Meaning:

“It has been made permissible for you the night preceding fasting to go to your wives [for sexual relations]. They are clothing for you and you are clothing for them. Allah knows that you used to deceive yourselves, so He accepted your repentance and forgave you. So now, have relations with them and seek that which Allah has decreed for you.

And eat and drink until the white thread of dawn becomes distinct to you from the black thread [of night]. Then complete the fast until the sunset. And do not have relations with them as long as you are staying for worship in the mosques. These are the limits [set by] Allah, so do not approach them. Thus does Allah make clear His ordinances to the people that they may become righteous.”

1. Perform Wudu

2. Recite Durood Sharif 3 times

3. With pure intentions, recite verse 187 of Surah Al-Baqarah 100 times

4. Perform 2 rakat salah

5. Make a dua to Allah (SWT) to restore your relationship with your spouse

What Does Islam Say about Divorce?

Breaking the sacred bond between married couples is not encouraged in Islam. It is permissible only if there are valid reasons and it should be considered as a last resort. 

Abdullah ibn Umar reported: The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said,

“The most hateful of lawful matters to Allah is divorce.”

Although Islam permits divorce, Muslim spouses should try all possible ways to save their marriage. 

How Can a Couple Avoid Divorce?

A couple can save their marriage as long as both of them act positively with each other. Here’s a list to follow:

  • Understanding each other’s needs, wants, and desires
  • Avoiding arguments by staying calm
  • Giving up one’s opinion in an argument even if they are correct
  • Not shouting at each other unless the house is on fire
  • Advising the partner lovingly instead of criticizing harshly
  • Resolving an issue between them before sleeping
  • Expressing gratitude to each other every day
  • Admitting any wrongdoings and asking for forgiveness as soon as possible

1. Can I Remarry My Spouse After Divorce in Islam?

In Islam, a spouse can divorce and remarry their partner two times. After the third divorce, the husband cannot marry their partner. Allah (SWT) says:

“And if he has divorced her (the third time), then she is not lawful unto him thereafter until she has married another husband” [al-Baqarah 2:230]

Also, if a man divorces his wife for the first or second time and her iddah has not ended, he can take her back in the presence of two witnesses.
